Hi, this is my design of the East Asian Castle from Age of Empire 2. In the game this is the typical Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Mongol Castle, and although it costs 650 stone, it is mostly made of wood...
I designed this model myself with Blender. I used the images of the original castle as a references but I modified some details to facilitate the 3D printing. In particular, I reduced the number of steps and tiles and increased the thickness of the beams. For the rest I tried to be as faithful as possible to the original design. I also used the Japanese castle of Osaka as a reference, especially for the shape of the roofs and tiles.
The castle is made up of eight parts in total, easy to print and assemble. I printed everything with supports, but some parts, such as the rock base, the first floor (the one with the entrances) and the third floor, if desired, can be printed flat on the plate and without supports. Important note: In the files there is only one wooden balcony, remember to duplicate it in the print settings;
The castle measure: 95 mm wide x 115 mm long x 140 mm high and it took about 10 hours to be printed. With the front staircases the measures are 130 mm wide x 115 mm long x 140 mm high.
The scale is 1:150. I chose this scale for my convenience, you can print the pieces in a smaller scale but I don't recommend it, especially because the lanterns and fences are difficult to print at this size and are quite fragile.
The joints between the parts are not perfect, so if you want something absolutely fixed I suggest gluing the pieces, but even without glue the model is quite stable.
I hope you enjoy it and remember … keep your castle away from bombards, rams and trebuchet
I hand painted the castle with Citadel paints. I didn't really like the original dark brown color of the roof, it doesn't stand out much from the wood color of the beams, so I used a reddish terra cotta base to color the tiles. I also added some greenery into the rock base to mimic the moss.
Take note: This model was designed to be a 3d print, supports are not included.
