Unlike the Echo detector, the Bear now shows the direction of the artifact and distance with an audio cue. Iit's direction can be found in the lit bars on a circular light display along with the beeping of the Echo detector as one gets closer to the artifact. Overall this is a very good starter detector since it has longer range compared to the Echo and provides a quicker and safer trip of hazardous artifact hunting.
Its primary limitation is it can only detect one artifact at a time. Thus, a player will have to be sure that he obtained all artifacts within a cluster of anomalies. As such, this is time consuming but is still more reliable than the outdated Echo detector.
The last generation of anomalous activity detector can be used to locate anomalous formations and has a color diode panel, which not only indicates the direction of artifacts, but also measures the distance to them. To switch to artifact search mode, open the device's front cover. Unfortunately the device is programmed with a somewhat outdated list of detectable artifacts.
The Bear detector is a more advanced Anomaly and Artifact detector featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat.
