So it just hit me that there is alot of potential to 'upgrade' the PS5 faceplates. I did some searching on how to 'bling' up the faceplates and it mostly turned out to be stickers and wraps... mostly. A couple of searches did turn up to be interesting though. One in particular that got my attention was the spiderman faceplate (picture attached) which I thought looked epic. So I did some digging and found out that this isnt as mainstream as I thought it would be and most of the work I found were basically renders. Now I live in Pakistan so I know that there's no chance of buying it here without paying a ridiculous amount of money (inflation is really bad here at this point in time), So I figured why not try to making it myself.
Some background here: I am a lead software engineer by profession and 3D modelling and 3D printing have always been old hobbies of mine. So it just seemed doable as all I needed was a good scan of the faceplates and the rest is just 3D artistry.
Now keep in mind I am not that good at the 'art' part.... just good enough to give it a shot though.
So I went online and looked for 3d models/scans of PS5 faceplates. For some weird reason I didnt find any at the start so I contacted some local 3D scanning services for scanning the plates of my PS5 but unfortunately their quotes were a little out of my budget so hit a dead end there.
Luckily though I did manage to come across a model on myminifactory that was reasonably priced and looked about right so I thought why not give it a shot.
Powered up Blender, imported the model, a couple of nights later: I have a fairly decent faceplate for my PS5 (picture attached).
Now it's all a matter a matter of printing it. I have an Ender 3 V2 and as expected. I have a limitation on the build size. so in order to deal with that I split the model into 3 pieces (picture attached) and then my plan is to print them separately and then plastic weld them together.
More details on this can be found on my reddit post bellow:https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/y358gh/ps5_custom_faceplates_using_ender_3_v2/
I have printed this using my Ender 3v2 using ESUN PLA+ and this is the faceplate I am currently using myself.
