A number of iconic chess sets have been designed over the past centuries. There's the Staunton, the Zagreb, the Williams, the Kyiv. And some famous artists like Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray also created their own signature sets.
As a product designer and chess player I decided to create a set as well and it is here for you to download and 3D print. I present: The Tilburg Set.
It is named after my hometown and, what few people know, it's one of the legendary historical chess venues. Several epic battles with Kasparov and Karpov have taken place there, as well as the famous 'King Walk' in Short vs. Timman, 1991. So we deserve to have our own set.
The design of this set has been deliberated for a few years and perfected several times. It combines a modern with an organic form language. The pieces are meant to be painted in duotone, such as white/black with a golden or silver accent color. But you are free to color it according to your own preferences - I will be delighted to see your makes!
