This is a 3D printable Key-ring replica of Homo Naledi that I created from 3d scans obtained at MorphoSource.org by Duke university.
It was created by positioning the available bones in more or less the correct positions and then mirroring parts to fill in the missing pieces. I then created a sphere with a high poly count around the bones and used a cloth modifier with a high stretch value to vacuform the sphere to the shape of the bones. After that was complete, I divided it in two and modeled in the cavities to house three small batteries, a small piece of spring steel and a single LED. It fits together with three small 3d printed clips. I have supplied an Assembly PDF to help put it all together.
Homo Naledi was named after the rising star cave in which the fossils were found (Naledi meaning Star in Sesotho), is one of the most primitive members of our genus, had a brain the size of an orange, weighed just 45 kilograms and was about 1.5m tall.
