Thomsons Gazelle Antelope
Thomson's gazelle, scientifically known as Eudorcas thomsonii, is a widely recognized species of gazelle. This particular species is named in honor of the explorer Joseph Thomson and is sometimes affectionately referred to as a tommie. Some experts argue that it is a subspecies of the red-fronted gazelle and was previously classified under the genus Gazella in the subgenus Eudorcas, until Eudorcas was promoted to genus level.
Thomson's gazelles are abundant in Africa, with populations exceeding 200,000 individuals, making them the most prevalent type of gazelle in East Africa. Known for their agility, these small antelopes are capable of reaching impressive speeds of up to 80–90 km/h (50–55 mph). They rank as the fourth-fastest land animal, following the cheetah (their primary predator), pronghorn, and springbok.
