This is an attractive tensegrity structure with an imbedded clock. The clock movement is battery operated. The structure itself consists of six 3D printed parts joined together to form the upper and lower frames. The frames are joined by slender chain which give the appearance of the upper frame with clock being freely suspended. The two major joints are comprised of 4 each 25mm long 1/16” steel guide rods for alignment (optional) and super glue. The chains are standard 3mm diameter ball pull chains with the ends pinned to the frames with 25mm long 1/16” steel rod or standard pull chain connectors. The lower curved member of the upper frame has 6 each 5/8” steel balls imbedded in it to provide balance.
The overall size is 15.2 cm W x 18.2 cm D x 36.8 cm H (6.0” W x 7.2” D x 14.5” H). The 3D model was created with the BlocksCAD software. The structure pictured was printed using ERYONE Silk Tri Color PLA – Red & Purple & Green. The parts were printed on an ELEGOO Neptune 4. The file format is STL. Files are included for three clock insert sizes – 4 1/16”, 3 1/2”, 3 1/8” diameters.
