Parrot bird is a bird with a strong curved beak, upright posture and clawed feet. They are classified into four families with about 410 species in 101 genera, mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions. These four families are Psittaculidae (Old World parrots), Psittacidae (African and New World parrots), Cacatuoidea (cockatoos), and Strigopidae (New Zealand parrots). One-third of all parrot species are threatened with extinction, with a higher combined extinction risk (IUCN Red List Index) than any other comparable group of birds. Parrots are generally distributed throughout the tropics with some species also inhabiting temperate regions. The greatest diversity of parrots is in South America and Australasia.
