Beacon and Blaze are both explained as relatives of the late campus dog and cousins to each other. The mascots each are considered to have boisterous personalities and a game day spirit. Moreso, the pair keep a competitiveness alive with a dislike of squirrels (Indiana State University’s mascot) and cats (Northern Iowa University’s mascot).

With appearances at the first football game, Sept. 3, and the Popcorn Festival, the university looks to quickly incorporate the duo in Valpo’s community.
