Megalodon (Otodus megalodon) was a species of massive prehistoric shark that lived from the Early Miocene to the Early Pliocene epochs. Not only was it the largest shark, it was also the largest predatory animal and one of the largest fish to ever exist. It also had the most powerful bite of any organism ever recorded,[1] enough to bite a humpback whale in half.[2]

It is largely unknown what shark Megalodon resembled or what classification it really belongs to due to fragmentary remains. Therefore, it has often been speculated as basically a giant great white shark.
