_ Story: The Devil Fruit that gave Luffy its abilities was originally going to be called Gomu no Mi (ゴムの実 Gum Fruit), but Oda's editor commented to Oda that the fruit does exist and renamed it Gomu Gomu no Mi (ゴムゴムの実 Gum Gum Fruit)._
