Description

Head of princess, daughter of Akhenaten 3d printable model

This sculpture representing an unidentified princess originates from the Amarna Period, showcasing a distinct familial resemblance among the artworks of that era.

The youthful visage and the characteristic elongated heads were favored by Amarna artists to portray the king's daughters. Discovered in Amarna, this particular head is currently exhibited at the Egyptian Museum in Berlin.

Daughter of Nefertiti & Akhenaten. Amarna PrincessDaughter of Nefertiti & Akhenaten. Amarna PrincessThe so-called ‘Amarna revolution’ encompassed not only a shift in religious practices but also a transformation in artistic expression. The art from this period is distinguished by its fluid forms and the unique expressiveness of facial features and gestures, which, although less pronounced, continued to influence subsequent artistic styles.

The Amarna Period spanned less than two decades; with the rise of the young Tutankhaten, later known as Tutankhamun, traditional religious practices were reinstated.

Akhetaten was ultimately deserted and repurposed as a source of building materials. Nevertheless, the Amarna interlude signified a pivotal transition in political, cultural, and artistic realms.

A comparable head of a princess is housed in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, USA. The facial features are strikingly similar, characterized by a soft, youthful roundness, deep-set almond-shaped eyes, and painted ochre lips. The profile view, as illustrated in the accompanying image, reveals a resemblance to the bust of Nefertiti. Does this indicate a familial connection between mother and daughter? Most likely.

This information is highlighted in the article “Egyptian Statuary of Courtiers in Dynasty 18” by William Kelly Simpson. Although half of the face is regrettably missing, the remaining portion still conveys the remarkable beauty and delicacy that the ancient artist captured.
