Anubis, also known as Inpu, Inpw, Jnpw, or Anpu in Ancient Egyptian, is a significant figure in ancient Egyptian religion. He is the god of funerary rites, protector of graves, and guide to the underworld. Anubis is often depicted as either a canine or a man with a canine head. Throughout different periods in Egyptian history, Anubis played various roles. Initially, he was portrayed as a guardian of graves, and later, during the Middle Kingdom, he was replaced by Osiris as the lord of the underworld. One of Anubis' important responsibilities was to accompany souls into the afterlife and participate in the Weighing of the Heart ceremony. This ceremony determined whether a soul was worthy of entering the realm of the dead. Despite being frequently depicted and mentioned in Egyptian mythology, there are no significant myths directly involving Anubis.
