This is my design of the Destination Moon (Objectif Lune) cartoon created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé.
This is a large model. Alone the rocket is 912mm or about 36high without the optionaltoothpick" for the probe on top. The rocket body is hollow and divided into 3 sections. The rocket nozzle has a hole that can accommodate a 3/8 inch tube or rod (use steel as such a large model will require a strong support that brass may not be able to handle).
The wings of the rocket and the bottom part of the rocket have holes to ensure a precise fit.
The moon base is divided up into 4 parts and is about 444mm or about 17.5 inches in diameter so you will need a printer that can accommodate that if you wish to print out the base. If you don't use the moon base, it will still be an impressive build.
My design is smooth and not chunky. I have added recessed lines to aid in painting the checkerboard pattern as well as an optional section with cargo and man door cut-outs in case you want to make an interior.
Each STL is set up to have the lease amount of support needed.
My design should be able to be sized up or sized down to your liking (within limits, of course).
Some post processing may be necessary in order to get the cargo and man doors to fit, depending on the settings and calibration on your printer. Simple tools like files, drills may be necessary in order to have parts fit smoothly together. I recommend post processing all parts to get the best surface quality possible.
