My own rendition of Obi Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber from A New Hope. Equipped with a working button and made ready for a light and polycarbonate tube if you want.
Modeled based on some reference photos and screen caps. Maybe it’s not 100% screen accurate, but it’s pretty darn close.
Size:
The saber hilt is in it’s full size 29 cm long. Almost every section is detachable with a printed thread. In the files you’ll find a unsliced model to be printed in one piece. For when you would like a lightsaber keychain if that’s your thing :)
Weight:
The weight of the saber is pretty decent. It’s very sturdy and doesn’t feel like a 3d print. You could weigh it down with plaster of Paris or sand for example.
Finish:
For the finish I personally went for a weathered and rusted look. This saber has seen many epic battles and some tamer ones *insert Vader vs Obi Wan scene here”. It’s been exposed to the gruelling sandstorms of Tatooine and has been forgotten together with Old Ben’s real name. Feel free to go for the clean hilt look :)
Print Settings:
The hilt was printed with a mix of PLA and ABS. ABS for the more detailed parts like the graflex clamp and PLA for the chunky grenade body and such. All printed with about 20-50% infill on 0.1 mm layer height.
Notes:I’ve modeled a switch bodywork that pressure fits in the graflex body. I ripped an tiny cheap flashlight apart for its switch and glued it in the switch holder. I also bought a high power LED online (High Power LED 3W 110° 70lm) and a 30° lens cap for the LED. The LED is powered by a 3v CR2032 cell battery.
To install the button, place the button from the inside into one of the holes in the graflex body and pressure place the switch bodywork in the graflex body. Align the two in such a way that the button is hold in place by the switch. Some filing may be required.
