HISTORICAL NOTE: Almirante Tamandaré was a protected cruiser of the Brazilian Navy.

The Almirante Tamandaré was, also similar to the US protected cruisers Newark, San Francisco and Philadelphia or the German Irene class. The protected cruiser Almirante Tamandaré was built in the Rio de Janeiro shipyards in 1890. She was the third largest ship in the Brazilian navy (after the battleships Riachuelo and Aquidabã).
