Historical note: The Alpha Torpedo was built by the Thornycroft shipyard in Cheswick, England and acquired in 1883 by the Brazilian Navy.

On August 19, 1884, the squadron was incorporated. His job was to patrol the port of Rio de Janeiro and the Naval Base of Cobras Island.

Displacement: 4 ton.

Dimensions: 13.71 m long, 1.82 m mouth and 0.30 m draft.

Propulsion: steam engine, coupled to a propeller.

Speed: 12 knots.
