Description

About: A frigate is a type of warship, having various sizes and roles over time. In the 17th century, a frigate was any warship built for speed and maneuverability, The description often used being frigate-built. These could be warships carrying their principal batteries of carriage-mounted guns on a single deck or two decks (with further smaller carriage-mounted guns usually carried on the forecastle and quarterdeck of the vessel). The term was generally used for ships too small to stand in the line of battle, although early line-of-battle ships were frequently referred to as frigates when they were built for speed.

The following remarks apply to the FBX version of the model only: Pros: + Model is decent with an OK amount of detail. Cons: - The entire model is baked down into one single mesh/object (1.6 million polys). In order to manipulate individual parts, the buyer would have to cut up the mesh. (At a quick glance, the Blender file does not appear to have this problem; but I don't use Blender.) - Some aspects of the model are somewhat less than realistic, for example, the ship has a steering wheel but no rudder that I can discern; there are canons balls loose on the decks (others are kept in crates which is IMO more realistic to prevent them from rolling around deck); and there are oil lanterns the look of which seems a bit anachronistic to me. - No textures were included with the download with any file format; when contacted, the creator supplied the textures separately. - The textures are apparently 1K "free" textures from textures.com which makes the repetition of patterns very obvious on some parts of the mesh (you can even see it on the preview renders if you look carefully). - Some textures were properly linked to materials, most required re-linking manually. I cannot really recommend this model to people who do not use Blender; however, because CGTrader only gives me a choice between "positive" and "negative" with nothing in between and because I got the model at a discount (I couldn't recommend it at full price), I'll give the model a by-the-skin-of-its-teeth thumbs-up. For a more solid recommendation, the creator would have to give the model, the textures, and in particular the FBX version some more love.
