Intuitive Machines' Nova-C lunar lander. This small uncrewed lander was developed to carry up to 100 kg of both commercial and institutional science-scale payloads to the lunar surface, funded by NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. Additional payloads may be released in orbit, during any coast period between low Earth orbit, the interim geosynchronous transfer orbit, translunar injection, and lunar orbit. To further take advantage of this capability, Intuitive Machines partnered with Spaceflight Inc to comanifest payloads on a SHERPA-ES tug (not included in this model) on these missions.
On February 21, 2024, the Nova-C Odysseus (IM-1) successfully soft-landed on the moon, near the lunar south pole, becoming the first American spacecraft to do so since Apollo
Three missions are currently manifested, all of which would fly on SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets.
