ESA Man-Tended Free Flyer

ESA Man-Tended Free Flyer 3D model

Description

MTFF was a space station proposal by the European Space Agency in the 1980s to early 1990s. It would've been primarily for uncrewed experiments, but periodically visited by crewed missions for repairs, upgrades, consumable replenishment, and experiment swaps. Servicing missions would have used the Hermes spaceplane. MTFF was seen as a stepping stone to a European-domestic permanently-occupied space station, but was canceled in the 1990s along with Hermes. The pressurized element of it became the Columbus module of the International Space Station, and its heritage touched all subsequent ESA station modules.
