ARCTUS Spacecraft

ARCTUS Spacecraft 3D model

Description

The Advanced Research and Conventional Technology Utilization Spacecraft (ARCTUS) was a proposed cargo spacecraft developed by Astrotech Corporation (formerly Spacehab Inc), in partnership with Lockheed Martin, United Launch Alliance, Cimarron, and Odyssey Space Research, for NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) program. ARCTUS would have delivered both pressurized and unpressurized cargo to the International Space Station, and also support return of pressurized cargo to Earth and disposal/destructive reentry of unpressurized equipment.

ARCTUS was notable for its almost-total reliance on existing hardware, virtually every component was already flying on another vehicle. The pressurized cargo module was built from a Centaur propellant tank, its other primary structures were built using the Centaur Forward Adapter or various payload adapter structures. The main propulsion system was based on Centaur's RCS. Its solar arrays and batteries were based on an existing satellite design, its avionics were from a combination of Centaur and a satellite bus, and its environmental control/life support systems, Flight Releasable Attachment Mechanisms (FRAMs), Common Berthing Mechanism (CBM), and other equipment were directly based on ISS or Spacehab systems. Launch would be aboard a ULA Atlas V or Delta IV rocket. The only major new development would be an inflatable heat shield used for reentry of the pressurized cargo module

All materials, textures, and linked libraries are packed in the .blend file. A zip file of image textures is also included for use with other software. Unapplied modifiers and instancing have been used to reduce file size and enable easy editing
