This model of a realistic exoplanet is one of those moons/exoplanets one might expect to find in orbits of far away stars. This planet has an appearance somewhat similar to mars due to its color, but is in size more like Pluto or the moons of Jupiter. Its red appearance comes from rusted iron that was exposed to its former atmosphere. This atmosphere however is long gone due to its small size and low gravity. Because its atmosphere has been lost for a long time, it's red color is less intense than that of mars. The white spots on the planet contain some water ice, but most of it is frozen CO2. This ice is divided relatively evenly over the planet due to its irregular orbit and rotation.
The difference with the alfa version is that this beta version has a larger deposition of ice on its surface. This model can be used in combination with the alfa version to illustrate a different (colder) time period.
Technical information
In real life, this planet would have a diameter of around 2.000 km in diameter. Some 3d programs do not display objects of this size very well. In order to avoid complications, and because most users want to decide the exact diameter themselves, the model itself is not scaled to the real life size.
