A Short History of Planet EarthFormation (~4.5 billion years ago)Earth formed from a swirling disk of gas and dust around the young Sun. Collisions of planetesimals created a molten sphere, which eventually differentiated into layers: the core, mantle, and crust.

The Hadean Eon (~4.5–4 billion years ago)This was Earth's fiery infancy, characterized by intense volcanic activity, asteroid impacts, and the formation of the Moon after a massive collision with a Mars-sized body.

The Archean Eon (~4–2.5 billion years ago)Earth cooled, forming the first oceans and continents. Life began as simple, single-celled organisms like bacteria, which thrived in a largely anoxic (oxygen-poor) atmosphere.

The Proterozoic Eon (~2.5 billion–541 million years ago)Photosynthetic organisms produced oxygen, leading to the Great Oxidation Event. This era also saw the emergence of multicellular life and the first eukaryotic cells.

The Phanerozoic Eon (541 million years ago–present)This eon is marked by dramatic biological and geological changes:

Paleozoic Era (541–252 million years ago): Explosion of life, the development of fish, plants, and early land animals. It ended with the Permian mass extinction.Mesozoic Era (252–66 million years ago): Age of dinosaurs, the rise of mammals, and flowering plants.
