Mars open pit mining quarry

Mars open pit mining quarry 3D model

Description

In the near future there is a very good chance we might start to colonize Mars. However, lifting everything out of earth’s gravity is extremely costly and fuel consuming. Sooner or later, we will have to start producing building materials on Mars itself.

Luckily, Mars has plenty of material for us to mine and use. The rocks of mars are a good material for building a mars base. It can be pressed to bricks or 3d printed directly into structures. For more specialized application, the different materials like aluminum, iron and silica can be separated out and purified.

Of course, mining material on Mars is not only useful for a Mars base itself, but mining mars can also be a great thing for exploring the rest of space. For one, mars has much less gravity and almost no atmosphere, making it much easier to send things into space. A Mars based industry would therefore be a great next step.
