This object is one of those listed in the original edition of the New General Catalog. The galaxy belongs to the Virgo Cluster and is also part of the so-called Markarian chain. Supernovae SN 1991bg type Ia and 1980I erupted in the galaxy. Their peak apparent magnitude was 14. Type Ia supernova SN 1957B was also recorded. Its peak apparent magnitude was 12.5.
