What is the product I am selling ?

A Dalek, the original you might say. This Dalek version is from the early 1960s, the design that started it all and got Dalekmania going throughout the 1960s. This design was first seen in the first serial The Daleks from December 1963 and used a few more times and last seen in 2015 in The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar when many variations of Daleks can be seen.

This Dalek design was changed in the mid to late 1960s, and this design was used for most of the original classic series run, with only colour variations. [See DALEK 1960s - 1980s (DOCTOR WHO 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION)] for this Dalek variation (Only one colour variation atm. More variation to come in 2024)

Why did I do this model ?

As a fan of Doctor Who since 2005, I love many aspects of the series, be that The Doctor, VFX, and the monsters. With its 60th Birthday (23rd November), I wanted to celebrate by doing a number of 3D models including a number of variations of the Daleks as seen here with the original design.

I strongly believe fans of the series who are looking to work on their own Doctor Who projects, will be happy and pleased with this 3D Dalek, that they return for other related models I will upload in 2024.

How the file works

Within the downloadable folder, I have included two different blender files. One of these files (Procedural_Texturing_Dalek_1960s_Version_01) all the textures/materials are included, using a wide variety of procedural nodes. For those unfamiliar with this, it means you will be able to modify any node, specifically the look, style and layout of any material/texture, thus allowing you to make changes to suit your own preferred taste/style specific to your own project needs. This Blender file will suit any level of experience as the node layout is quite simple and easy to follow.

However, for those who want the ease and comfort of downloading the file without worrying about making changes, all the textures are baked as .png files. This can be found under the Blender File (Dalek_1960s_Version_01). To use correctly just link texture ZIP files, (all included in the Texture Folder/zip file), and link them in Blender or your own 3D program.

All the components (for both files) are parented to an Empty (located at the bottom of the skirt) which will allow you as the user, to move the Dalek around either for animation or static imagery. As a bonus, the eye stalk, laser and plunger can be moved in any direction with their respective pivot points located at their ends. This model is not rigged.
