Hey all!
This is one of those projects that I wanted to do for the longest time and finally got to! I've always loved the rocks I saw in anime backgrounds and finally, here are 4 different ones you can use!
Of course, I know they are as varied as there are shows, lol, but the most common ones I've noticed, are based on the same pattern - like these!
Included:
- 4 Rock Shaders - completely procedural (Cycles compatible*)
- 4 Demo scenes (1 each)
- 2 Extra shaders
Rock Types:
- Cliff Face
- Flat layer - Think like stacked pancakes
- Square - Square as in ratio, standard rocks you'd find by a river.
- Square rough - Square as in ratio, standard rocks you'd find by a river, but with roughness added.
Demo scenes:
- Massive cliff face (Cliff face)
- Beach (Square Rough)
- Rock Pillars (Flat Layer)
- Cave Ruins (Square)
Extra Shaders:
- Grass
- Ground
All of these shaders are based on the same premise - they are for environments. They all center around an empty (or object of your choosing), to scale the shaders. This approach is best when it comes to environments, because it allows you to define vertical hangs and use the lowest possible poly-count for some seriously massive objects - intersections not being an issue either and NO UNWRAPPING REQUIRED! :D
How to use:
- Append the project objects
- Attach the material to the desired object
- Scale and move the appended empty for the right feel.
You can use these in animation as well (like rocks rolling down a hill), just customize for the coordinates.
This is a massive set of work and was such a joy to put together!! I know it will help your projects along swimmingly!!! :D
**Cycles compatibility:* Some bump artifacts did appear; they work, but may need some adjustment. See example image.
Some uses can include:
- Rocks by a waterfall
- Rocks in a museum
- Rocks in a river
- Floating islands
- Nature scenes
- Landscape garden scenes
- And of course, the beach!
