Benzedrine - levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine - molecules

Benzedrine - levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine - molecules 3D model

Description

Benzedrine (_bennies_) is the brand name of a decongestant first marketed in 1933. It was the first pharmaceutical drug to contain amphetamine. Benzedrine contained an equal (racemic) mixture of:

  • levoamphetamine (Formula: C9H13N; CAS: 156-34-3) and
  • dextroamphetamine (Formula: C9H13N; CAS: 51-64-9).

Benzedrine was used to treat a wide variety of medical conditions including narcolepsy, obesity, low blood pressure and low libido. Because of its side effects and addictive nature, benzedrine became a controlled, prescription-only drug in the 50s and 60s. Levomethamphetamine is still used as the active ingredient in certain brands of inhalers in some countries.

These molecules are provided in three standard representations and includes a simulated electrostatic (van der Waals) surface. The whole model is provided as a C4D scene, all objects are editable primitives or metaball objects.
