Historical description of the coin:
This is a British One Penny coin from 1938.On the obverse (right side in the image), there is a profile portrait of King George VI facing left with the Latin inscription GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP around the edge, which translates to George VI, by the Grace of God, King of all Britain, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India. On the reverse (left side), there is the seated figure of Britannia facing right, holding a trident and shield, with ONE PENNY written around the edge. The date 1938 appears at the bottom of this side. The coin is made of bronze and shows some toning and patina consistent with its age. It has a reeded edge, visible in the side view on the right of the image. This penny was minted during the early part of George VI's reign, just before the outbreak of World War II.These pre-decimal pennies were part of the British monetary system until decimalisation in 1971, with 12 pennies making up one shilling, and 20 shillings making up one pound.
