Ezomo of Benin designates the highest-ranking war chief in the ancient Benin Kingdom. Historically, the Ezomo was the third most prestigious chief in the hierarchy. Originally, it was bestowed upon distinguished warriors by the Oba of Benin, but during the tenure of Ezomo Ehenua, under the rule of Oba Akenzua I, the title became hereditary within the Ehenua family. The Ezomo typically resides in Uzebu, maintaining a semi-autonomous status.
Depicts single standing warrior figure, holding eben sword aloft in right hand, left hand resting on belt. Figure has dotted scarification marks on both upper arms. Wears fibre helmet with, deep beaded collar, leopard's tooth necklace, armlets, beaded sash across chest, beaded anklets and patterned wrap-around skirt.
