Ancient Bell inside Pashupatinath Temple near aryaghat (a place for Cremating dead bodies), Kathmandu. The present form of this temple was constructed in 1692 A.D and over time many more structures have been erected. It is said that by ringing the bell, the devotee informs the deity of his arrival. The sound of the bell is considered important as it is said that it welcomes divinity and dispels evil.
Bell is callled “ghanta” in saskrit language. It is a classical language and was a language of religion, high culture, and of the political elites in south asian regions. Nowadays it’s still a language spoken by some intellectual, like latin in the West.
