500 000 years old Acheulean hand-axe

500 000 years old Acheulean hand-axe 3D model

Description

This is an ancient hand-axe, found in Khotyn district, Ukraine. The distinctive shape and material (flint) make me believe that this is an Acheulean stone tool. Acheulean is an archaeological industry of stone tool, and lasted from 1.5 million to 200,000 years ago. For comparison, Homo sapiens first appeared about 200,000 years ago. The earliest user of Acheulean tools was Homo ergaster, who first appeared about 1.8 million years ago. The hand-axe was scanned by using a NextEngine 3D laser scanner.
