Dasylirion Wheeleri: Desert Spoon
Dasylirion Wheeleri is a flowering plant in the asparagus family, native to arid environments in Southern Mexico and the Southwestern US. It is a slow growing evergreen shrub; the leaf mounds reach heights of 16 inches while the flowering stems grow to heights of 16 ft. It is used in the production of the alcoholic drink Sotol, which is the state drink of Chihuahua, Durango, and Coahuila. It is also used by the natives of the region for food and fiber.
