Amelanchier Lamarckii: Juneberry

Also known as Serviceberry or Shadbush, Amelanchier Lamarckii is a large deciduous flowering shrub or small tree in the family Rosaceae, growing anywhere between 15-25 ft tall. It is widely naturalised in Europe, where it is known as snowy mespilus. In spring it produced white star shaped flowers, and its young berry like pomme fruits become purple when ripe. They are edible and have a sweet apple flavor. The leaves also change color, opening pink, maturing to yellow/green, and turning red in autumn. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant.
