P. rubra (Common Orangutan), native to Mexico, Central America and Venezuela, produces flowers of yellow to pink depending on the variety. It is also related to the Nerium oleander. Both contain very white milky white resin, similar to the Euphorbia. In Mexico, the Nahuatl (Aztec) name for these species is “cacalloxochitl” meaning “crow”. It is used for many medical purposes, such as ointments.
