Lower leaves are underwater, on short petioles, thin, translucent, with fibrous margins. Floating leaves are ovoid, on long triangular petioles. Leaf blades are round or heart-shaped-oval, leathery, light green in color Flowers floating single, apical, yellow, 4-6 cm in diameter, with a smell. Flowering in June - September.

Fruits smooth, multi-nest, 4-5 mm long, ripen on the water surface. Development in water, ripening in August - September.
