HDL 13000 class - Model for small scale printing

HDL 13000 class - Model for small scale printing 3D print model

Description

The HDL 13000 is a design developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries for the Royal Malaysan Navy. This MRSS (Multi Role Support Ship) has been unvealed at the DSA 2022 and one of the designs competing currently for the new class envisioned by the navy. Its main task will be fleet logistics support, support of landing operations as well as relief for disasters and humanitarian crisis. It is planned for three units of the class to be acquired, entering service in the early 2020s, the last one by 2035. However, the covid pandemic has slowed down plans and hence the commission will happen a few years later than planned.

Overall the class is designed to displace 13.000 tons, giving it the current name. it is planned to be 160 meters long and have a 25 meter wide beam, with a relatively shallow draft. As for the landing forces, the ship will be able to carry 16 main battle tanks and 6 armoured vehicles at the same time. Landing operations can be done via lowering the aft ramp into the water. Additionally, helicopters can be carried in the hangar and on the open deck, should further forces be needed. To support units at sea, it is planned to include underway replenishment equipment, yet that isnt modelled in this model.

For self defence and support, a 76mm cannon and an 8-cell VLS is ready to use, including smaller weaponries mounted along the upper deck. It is unknown how many additional systems the class will carry.

Note: This model is recommended to be used in the 1/2000 scale. The models itself isnt scaled, the scale table is down below.

1/4000: 4cm or 1,57in

1/3000: 6,4cm or 2.52in

1/2000: 8cm or 3.15in

1/1000: 16cm or 6,3in

For self calculation: The HDL 13000 class will be roughly 160m or 525ft long.

The model is intended to be used with little supports as possible, yet some are recommended below the crane and main mast. I recommend using a resin printer for this. Up and Downsclaling might be possible, yet I dont know to what extend.

If you face issues with the model, have questions or want to propose some changes, please reach out to me, I am always happy to help. I am also open for suggetions for new ships which I havent done yet, as I am looking to expand my catalogue of ships.
