Description

This is an anti-aircraft shell used by Type 99 88mm Japanese AA guns. This was adopted as a superior weapon to the Japanese to the Type 88 75mm AA gun, and 1000 of these guns would be built. The design for the Type 99 was reverse engineered from captured German SK C/30 88mm naval guns that the Chinese Army had. The range of the Type 99 was a little over 10 km. The round itself weighs about 20lbs, and the explosive mass was about 2 lbs of TNT. The fuze is a Model 100 Mechanical Time Nose Fuze. This would be used mostly for defense over the Japanese homeland and against the anticipated Allied invasion. The shell is about 16.21 inches long, or 412mm.
