Description: The Type 4 Chi-So was a Japanese fully tracked troop carrier, derived from the chassis of the medium Type 4 Chi-To tank. The Type 4 Chi-So armored vehicle of the Pacific War, initially designed as a troop carrier vehicle and as an ammunition carrier. It had a certain resemblance to the German transport armored vehicles Sd.Kfz. 251 and the like. He could carry some men, for example, the servants of a piece of towed artillery in tow. The superstructure had an open top and rear, with an enclosed lightly armored driver’s cab similar to the one on the Ho-Ki armored troop transport. Also similar was the truck-like grille up front.
From its hull, the Japanese derived a new type of tank destroyer, the Type 5 Na-To, which then remained in the prototype state and a self-propelled artillery, the Type 4 Ha-to, was produced in very small number of copies.(Description source : www.globalsecurity.org)
