DESCRIPTION

Between 1604 and 1622 ... sixty nine Japanese ships received certificates to trade in Cochinchina ports; [source: Views of 17th Century Vietnam, an account from Christiforo Borri] Japan traded with Chúa Nguyễn providing them weapons in addition to the Portugese even in 1500 already. Cochinchina is the 3rd Southern part of Việt Nam.The earliest Japanese sword is called Jokoto (794); single-blade two handle. Not until after 1185 (late Heian period) that Japan may have learn some new techniques from Asian continent (not necessary China like the Chinese would prefer to say) making the Jokoto into a more curve shape now called the Nihonto. The Japanese however have developed their own sword techniques and refinements all by themselves. [source: The Connoisseur's Book of Japanese Swords, Kokan Nagayama]Văn hóa Đông Sơn; predates Shang dynasty in China where their early bronze daggers were discovered. Either the Chinese made a later discovery or they learned it from the Vietnamese ! [source: Collins Atlas of World History]What you and I encounter from watching Phim Chưởng and buying them from Chinese manufacturers are not weapons. True Vietnamese swords (like the Nihonto) are built with great care and incorporating a mystical and religious aspect into the weapons. The Chinese replica or fake look-alike so called weapons are just that; replica. Yes they can kill and cut but they have no hồn. Binh khí can be understood as binh is binh lính (soldiers) and khí as khí giới. Now is a deeper meaning of khí written as a different Nôm character. Đây là văn hóa tinh túy của Việt Nam theo phong tục Tứ Trụ Văn Hóa Việt (là Đình Đền Chùa Miếu).Thus one sword takes a long time to make. It took over 10 months to have my sword made from Japan. The sword was blessed by a Shinto priest; similar to Vietnamese animism. The Chinese have done a great job distorting and hiding the truth to market their culture; making others feel inferior. Why say Chinese influence Vietnamese when there are things that Vietnamese taught the Chinese? Say Phong Thủy; another topic Chinese miss-lead the world of its origins.
