Vepr is the first Ukrainian-made 5.45 mm assault rifle. The rifle is a bullpup modification of the Soviet AK-74 assault rifle.

A positive feature of the Vepr machine gun is that the muzzle covers almost the entire length of the barrel, preventing it from uneven cooling in the side wind, which leads to its warping, and also protects the shooter's hands from burns. A plastic overlay on the cover of the receiver eliminates the contact of the shooter's cheek with metal and improves the convenience of aiming.

When firing in long bursts, the Vepr, unlike a conventional Kalashnikov assault rifle, does not shoot up and to the right, but vibrates parallel to the aiming line, practically not changing the position of the barrel. Due to the wider back of the butt, the recoil became softer.

The boar adjusts not only to right-handed but also to left-handed.

According to various sources, unlike the Kalashnikov assault rifle, Ukrainian weapons have 43 fewer parts.

The fire control handle is located in front of the store — it is located in the center of gravity, according to the pistol principle. The advantage of this solution is that the fighter can hold the machine gun with one hand.
