The R1 variant of the Belgian FN FAL was made under license at Lyttleton Engineering Works, South Africa. It was used extensively in the South African Border War from 1966 to 1990 and in the Rhodesian Bush War. It could be fired on automatic or single shot. The FN FAL was used by many military and police forces around the world. There were several variants over the years and the rifle is still in use in some countries.
