The M1919 Browning is a .30 caliber (.303 British or 7.62mm NATO plus a few other calibers) medium machine gun that has been in use since 1919 by the armed forces of 44 countries. They were used by virtually every arm of the military. Infantrymen, armored vehicles, naval ships and aircraft. Fed by a 250-round belt, it could fire at the rate of 400 to 600 rounds per minute. In the aircraft versions of World War II, they could fire up to 1500 rounds per minute. Some were mounted in wings others in the fuselage, and others were in turrets or blisters on the aircraft.
