3d PBR model HK416 A5 with scope. The HK416 is a German assault rifle adapted to the American AR-15 modular system, created by Heckler & Koch. Despite the external resemblance to the M4 carbine, the mechanism of the assault rifle is actually closer to the German H&K G36, and not to the AR-models of American rifles. Initially, the new weapon was supposed to be a replaceable module for installation on any lower receiver from the M4 or M16, but later, full-fledged assault rifles also appeared. The name HK416 means NATO compatibility with magazines from M4 and M16 - NATO-STANAG-DRAFT 4179 (M4 / M16 Magazines). The latest version of the machine is named HK416A5. In addition, there is a version chambered for 7.62 × 51 mm - HK417, which competes with the FN SCAR. Adopted by the Bundeswehr under the designation of the G38 family.
