Desert Rose House is an extreme approach to the subject of living in a desert.
According to scientists, greenhouse effect within the next years will affect more and more lands,
which will dry out of water. Very special treatment of surrounding soil will be needed.
Our project of a house is a vision of creating self-sufficient eco-system, that will provide water and fresh
air for the house dwellers.
Construction of the house combines different methods and materials.
Form consist of five spaces: "garden" - which is the space underneath the structure, inside a hole in a desert ; "heart" - main building - with most of standard interior functions such as living room (illuminated by skylight in the roof), kitchen, bedroom, etc. ; "terrace" - the floor of the terrace is made from fotopholtaic panels - energy source for the structure, which are partially transparent to provide a skylight for dwellers inside the building ; "inner terrace" or so called "time cube" - that is the entertaining place for dwellers. In the "garden" they can relax, they can hide inside the "heart" from the sun and wind, they can get some fresh air and energy on the "terrace", but to entertain they need an unique, but simple space, images from the past and future combine with each other and make the dwellers think. Last but not least - the "tower" - complex form, that simply provides an "observatory" functions to the house located in the middle of desert. It is also a place for physical activities and walks.
As we read about “acquiring water in a desert” techniques, a planted ring of plants inside plastic bags should provide water and food for dwellers.
Our project represents the idea of architecture, which we believe is almost impossible to build at the moment, but surely will be accessible in the future.
The past is today, the future is tomorrow!
