Industrial manipulators are pneumatically balanced manual lifting aids.The manipulator allows the operator to lift and position the part as if it were an extension of his/her hand. They are high-speed, high-performance solutions for manual material handling. From the operator's perspective, industrial manipulators make the load virtually weightless, allowing the operator to easily lift, lower, or otherwise move the product. There are usually no up or down buttons, allowing the operator to focus on moving the load quickly instead of using the buttons. Unlike a crane, a manipulator can help carry loads that may be off the axis of the end effector, allowing the product to be handled outside of its center of mass.
