NOTE This Dragon package has two scale versions.Version one is larger 1/55 and fits the larger fairing on the Falcon heavy. Just because...Version two is more accurate to the actual 1/72 scale rocket and fits Stage two of the Falcon 9 and Heavy rocket.Version 2 is 29% smaller but all the parts are now scaled down and printable
It was originally created because of interest from the community, and has now been refined to be a nice enjoyable model to build.
I decided it had to have a hatch that can open and close as well as a working nose cone hinge.Since I was going that far, I also added chairs inside and made all 20 pieces slot or clip together. So no glue should be needed. As with all my models, it all prints without the need for supports. It can also be printed much larger and all the hinges should still work.
Important print settings are as follows:For the main body I used 0.1 layer height, 0.8 shell thichness and 0% infil = 2.8m filament and +-5hrs print time. For the floor and base I used .15 layer height with 0.8 shell thickness and 25% infill = 2.48m filament and +-3hrs print time. The rest are small pieces apart from the Fairing which is about 8hrs which can be printed the same as the main body.It weighs approximately 50 grams.I provided it in .obj, stl and 3ds max formats. I also included the Gcode files I used to print my prototype.
It's not perfectly accurate because it is hard to find adequate photos of the inside of the craft and I tweaked it to be easy to 3d print.I hope it gives as much enjoyment as I received making it.
