n Kortrijk for the first time: TON to showcase Chips and the Valencia collection

This year TON will be on display for the first time at the Biennale Interieur in the Belgian city of Kortrijk. The company will feature its key new product for 2018 – the Chips lounge chair by the designer Lucie Koldová – and debut the Valencia chair and barstools from the Spanish creative studio Yonoh. TON products will be on view from 18 to 22 October in Hall 1, Stall L42.

“We were inspired by the rhythm of a pulsing city and by its bistros and cafes, where you can stop in for a quick lunch or coffee, or enjoy a long chat with friends over a glass of wine,” began Clara del Portillo from the creative studio Yonoh. “Our Valencia collection is designed to suit all these city settings – it's comfortable, timeless and practical.”

In addition to the highlighted qualities, the designers wanted Valencia to feature TON’s signature wood bending technique. “We searched for an iconic detail – refined yet strong. And then we came up with an elegant way to connect the back leg with the plywood backrest,” added the designer. The backrest will no doubt also impress thanks to its generous size and comfort, which can be further enhanced with upholstery. Comprising a chair and a barstool in two height options, the Valencia collection is practical for its strength, stability and ease of stacking.

Next to the Valencia collection, visitors to the Biennale Interieur can enjoy TON’s key new product for 2018. The Chips lounge chair is the first piece of seating furniture designed by Lucie Koldová, who is known for her work with glass and lighting. “I like working with translucent materials, so in this design I used a visually light yet intentionally oversized backrest made from perforated fabric and framed by hand-bent wood,” described Lucie Koldová the key features of her lounge chair. The commanding but airy backrest forms part of the chair base and is shaped like a classic potato chip. It stands in strong visual contrast to the roomy seat, which is supported by pocket springs. Commonly used in orthopaedic mattresses, pocket springs ensure a high level of comfort and durability even with heavy use. Seating comfort is further enhanced by a removable ergonomic pillow and an ottoman, both emulating the form of the lounge chair.

The TON stall at the Biennale Interieur will include several other new products launched in 2018. These include the Chop and Ink tables from the designer Michal Riabič, a barstool version of the Leaf chair designed by studio E-ggs, a barstool from the Ironica series and Lime Studio’s Dowel two-person settee as well as Anix coffee tables. After Kortrijk, TON will next be on view at IMM Cologne in Germany from 14 to 20 January 2019.More about this product
