It is Marcel Breuer of Hungary who has been credited with evolving the first lounge chair in 1928. Since then, many celebrated European designers have created their own take on the concept. The Fifi lounge chair draws on some of these but also echoes the Adirondack chair, a piece developed by Thomas Lee in America in 1903. He had wanted to create comfortable furniture for lounging outdoors. His spacious chair with a low, angled seat and broad arms proved to be incredibly popular and remains so to this day.
