The Homage to Mondrian Cabinet was designed in 1975 by one of Japan's most famous designers Shiro Kuramata for the Italian furniture manufacturer Cappellini.
As the name suggests, the cabinet references Piet Mondrian, the celebrated Dutch painter whose abstract style of painting simplified compositions to vertical and horizontal lines, using just black, white and the primary colours. Shiro Kuramata reflects a bold geometric design reminiscent of Mondrian's most famous works on to the front panel of each version of the Homage to Mondrian Cabinet.
